NEW YORK (THR) -- The Urbanworld Film Festival is partnering with Vibe magazine to create the Urbanworld Vibe Film Festival, an expanded event featuring more music and new films created through home video game technology.

Within its traditional five-day run, the fest plans to double its filmmaking panels, add more films to its 70-film average, use Vibe's brand name to enhance its music and nightlife events and, for the first time, allow for the submission of video game-produced films.

The Manhattan-based fest, scheduled for June 21-25, also will use one of its venues to unveil new video games, with live large-screen demonstrations. Organizers are negotiating with game manufacturers to obtain sponsorship for the venture, along with planning several cross-promotional opportunities through Vibe's magazine, Web site and other media outlets.

"Today you can't have movies without video games. The worlds have intertwined," Urbanworld Foundation founder and chairman emeritus Stacy Spikes said. "You also can't have urban cinema without having music and soundtracks."

The newly renamed fest will incorporate more music, possibly at enhanced nightlife events, capitalizing on Vibe's coverage and relationship with hip-hop and R&B artists.

The event, entering its 10th year, will feature studio film premieres, screenplay readings, talent spotlights and an awards brunch. Categories include best feature film, short film, documentary, screenplay and music video.
